I Don't Want to Come to You This Way

Battered and bruised
weary and empty
with nothing to give
I don't want to come to You
this way.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Angry and confused
nasty and ugly
in thought and deed

I don't want to come to You
this way.

All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

Scared and weak
my pride a vice
helplessness a bane
I don't want to come to You
this way.

Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.

Hiding and running
Trying too hard or
trying not at all
I don't want to come to You
this way.

Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

Exhausted and poured out
not wanting to try
anymore
I don't want to come to You
this way.

If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

You must see me
the way I see me
the way others see me
I don't want to come to You
this way.

Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. 

I come, dear Jesus, I come to You
this way and more
Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come;
