I can't believe Eric will be a half-year old on the 25th of this month! The time has flown!
He is such a handsome guy and reminds me so much of Evan when he was this age (one of these days I will have to post their photos side by side to show you)! There are many similarities to Carlee as well, especially in expressions (of which he makes many).
Eric sleeps through the night and takes a couple good naps if he is swaddled and in his swing. During the night though he wiggles himself down the bed sometimes even uncovering his arms and legs. He has given me quite the scare in the morning when he is not where I put him to sleep!
One of the struggles with Down Syndrome is low muscle tone. I have heard it isn't curable but that's where stretches and exercises will help tremendously. Eric is now able to hold his head up by himself for longer periods of time. We are working on strengthening his trunk muscles and he has recently been practicing sitting in the Bumbo which makes him look so grown up.
Our weekly appointments with the occupational therapist have been so fun as Eric seems to be on a learning streak and will surprise the therapist with new skills he's gained during the week. Last week he showed her how he can roll to his side from his back. This week we will be so excited to show off the "m" sound he has just started saying.
We haven't checked recently to see how he compares to an average 6 month old. It will be interesting to see how he compares because even with having Down Syndrome and being 4 months adjusted age he is doing quite well and doesn't have very many delays.
Eric loves to be around people and in the middle-of-it-all. He loves to stare into your eyes and tell you many stories usually with a lot of "o", "ew" and "gew"s. He also loves music and loves to be sung to.
He also loves his food. He has been eating cereal for over a month now and I joke with people that he has become a "cereal connoisseur" as he gets so excited when he sees it, opens his mouth wide and then rolls it around his mouth and tongue like he is savoring it and then after swallowing excitedly babbles for more. Yesterday I gave him some carrots and he was surprised by the new flavor and texture and is eager for more.
I am sure there are several other things this mommy could brag endlessly on about. But I close for now just filled with gratitude by God's mercy in his life and filled with wonder for all the things God will do in and through Eric in the future. I also am thankful to be surrounded by friends and family who have shown their love through their prayers, support and encouragement. We love you!
